We met Mark Triller 1 year ago, after we had listed our property for sale with another, and reportedly very successful, realtor the prior year. During the year of our previous contract, we had not been advised of any inquiries about our lakefront property. According to one neighbor, people interested were evidently just given driving instructions to our land and never shown the property. Our son, realizing our frustration with our lack of success, had advised us that there were realty companies that actually bought locations that hadn’t sold. I saw a newspaper ad for one of them and we called. Mark Triller answered and made an appointment to quickly come out to review the property. When Mark arrived, we gave him a complete tour and to our dismay, he advised us that our house was not the kind they were looking for. Then he said our house was too nice. They were looking for fixer- uppers. He asked us how much we wanted for our location and we really didn’t have a figure in mind. He asked if we would sell for 1 million dollars and we were stunned. After talking Mark’s proposal over, and even thinking that Mark might just be exaggerating, we decided to give him the opportunity. We had explained to him that we felt the previous property description had omitted many good points. He gave us permission to write the description we wanted. He gave us MLS guidelines, reviewed our multitude of write-ups, took pictures and asked us to do the same, highlighting what we felt should be emphasized. He always listened to us and made very sensible suggestions. Once we were all satisfied with the listing description and the pictures, the activity started. Mark advised us of every inquiry and allowed us to conduct showings if the buyers were amenable. Since my husband had designed and built the house and handcrafted much of the ornamentation, he explained invisible items that improved heating, construction, and appeal. Since he also maintained our 4 1⁄2 acres of land and our waterfront, he discussed with prospective buyers the features that he had added, the location of our survey pins, the animals that frequent the land and answered questions about the frontage. I concentrated on the house and the items that would remain with any sale, the history behind those items since many, such as some lights, were restored antiques. Some cabinet wood was over a century old and came from other buildings in the town, and other items, such as soapstone counters and stove, and Brazilian cherry floors, are not common in most houses. Mark paid attention to those details and emphasized that information in his showings. We were overwhelmed with the number of people who were interested in our house and the land, especially after a year of no supposed interest. Mark met with anyone interested at whatever time was convenient for them and for us. Within 6 months our land had been sold, despite a several-month delay caused by a misunderstanding by the Castleton zoning administrator. Then within another 5 months he had sold the house. The parcels combined netted more than the million dollars that Mark had originally mentioned to us. The amount was entirely due to Mark’s attention to detail, work ethic, judgement, respect for everyone he meets, and enthusiasm. We now consider Mark Triller a friend and find him the most impressive realtor we have ever met. We have successively recommended using him to a neighbor and have recommended and will continue to recommend Mark to anyone who is thinking of selling or buying.
